An interview with a young talented musician and Pharmacist

Meet Our Val/WCW: SheBoss!!!!

Hello Timi, let's meet you officially??

Good day,  my name is ORITSETIMEYIN Victoria Arueyingho popularly known as *timeyin* or the *SheBoss*.  Thank you for this opportunity to share my story and ideas

Tell us a little about your family/background??

Uhmm.. I'm from warri North Delta State. I'm the first child out of four children and we all grew up in Rivers State, Nigeria. I grew up with a different kind of orientation, I wasn't trained to be a sissy, rather I was brought up to be independent, outspoken and fearless.

How did you meet music???

I have always loved music. My first on stage performance was in the year 2002 at the Bournvita Brainmatch awards grand finale which held in Abuja,  I was six years old then. I grew up watching TLC, Jlo,  Britney spears and Michael Jackson.. And I knew right away that I wanted to be an artiste after watching the Lizzy McGuire movie. Funny how all these people influenced me. I fell in love with rap when I began to learn poetry in my Js1 and then back in the day,  I would turn poems into barz and spit 'em. I however had to define myself, based on my personality,  my perception and my individual sound. I am naturally eccentric, maybe a liberalist,  a societal non-conformist and partial rebel... So I do thing's outside the regular norm, although I have been inhibited by a lot of factors because I don't feel i'm strong enough yet to handle extreme criticism. This has always been ME

Can you describe your genre for us??

Well,  i'm not your regular HipHop and rap artiste.. My sound is Alternative.. So I would define my genre as Alternative HipHop.

Who do you listen to and why??

Well.. I filter my playlist a lot. If i'm listening to gospel music it has to Aaron shust, Lecrae, Dah Truth,  triniti and Andy mineo... But I draw my motivation to learn better from Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. Down here in Nigeria.. M.I and Vector Top my charts. I don't just listen to the music.. I listen for technique,  those salient points that people don't pay attention  to.. So it's a learning/exposure process for me

What inspires or motivates you??

The mere fact that the world needs to hear my message... And I could do something positive with the fame and everything else that comes with music motivates me to be better. I draw inspiration from my environment and I never cease to thank God and appreciate him in every work I do... He's the bedrock of our existence in the first place

What's your niche??

My niche... I dunno exactly what you mean by my niche,  but I know I have carved a niche for myself in this industry. It's hard to compare me with anyone else,  my brand and sound are unique and different.. I'm not just there making kpo kpo ti kpo sounds.. I'm there to make sense. The discipline I have as an individual is portrayed in my music.... I'm a no nonesense person and I take it all seriously

So we heard you are a pharmacist too, how do you manage both??

Yea i'm a pharmacist and i'm not just going to stop with this B. Pharm degree. It's not easy thinking about pharmacology this minute and the next minute you're writing sheets of music to memorize, practice and rehearse... But so far so good, i'm used to working under pressure and staying up late... I don't really feel the stress.

What should we expect soon??

I've got something new i'm working on... It's titled *songs of Solomon*, it's a love song. The beat was made by Sess the problem and it's produced by Becky Jay. It would drop in this first quarter with a good video... I'm all about quality and good reach. We would achieve that

So many people are struggling with school and talent, what's your advice to them??

It's not supposed to be a struggle. Priorities are necessary... You can't be in school all your life, it's just for a certain period of time. Being in school doesn't stop you from writing songs or visiting the studio during holidays... I believe that time should be used to learn and develop one's self. You'll have your talent for life... But If you don't get that degree.. You won't have a degree... And if you are not entrepreneural in nature or you don't have good financial back ups,  it would be incredibly difficult for you to earn a reasonable living. Hence,  the importance of going to school cannot be over emphasized... Go to school,  get a degree, make some money and invest in your talent

Thank you Timi
