Learning should'nt be unilateral, you should be willing to learn something new/good no matter the source

"Learning should'nt be unilateral, you should be willing to learn something new/good no matter the source"

Goodday friends, glad to have you here again
So I have observed that most people are very adamant to learning. They bluntly put up a fence around what they know, and make sure nothing comes in anymore. I'm speaking from my observation in my country Nigeria, it's just quite unfortunate. I'm not talking about school learning, I'm mostly referring to things that has to do with life! It spans across; spiritual/social/moral things and character. A priest is always right and won't want to be told otherwise.
Learning

An Elderly is the custodian of "all" wisdom, knowledge and understanding, so you cannot even dare teach or correct him (like who u be for the film?). A parent feels He/She cannot learn from a child, once a child, always a child! 'You cannot know more than your parent can you?? Don't tell me what to do, I'm not your mate'(very immature).
My question is, how do we learn if we are not willing to accept/listen to other people's opinions, think of them critically and make relevant adjustments (if necessary). The pride and the ego is just too much, when people are not willing to learn, there is little or no way they'll change.
The only end to learning is death, it is very immature to think you know it all, even in spiritual things. You can't be the only one doing it right. We grow because we learn.
It is quite appalling to see that this has eaten deep into the African mentality. I just wish this message can cause a serious rethink in their minds.
Thanks for reading my scribbles
